shalom miyeroushalaim

posted Wednesday, 6 July 2005
A "shalom miyerushalaim", from an internet cafe in the old city.
So far, everything is going fine, i wanted summer, i`ve got summer! In Tel Aviv it was incredibly hot, but in fact you just have to accept that you ae sweating. Here in Jerusalem, it`s a bit cooler, maybe 26 degrees. Yesterday, i was even freezing!

In Tel Aviv the atmosphere seemed to me as in any town, more or less relaxed, people going out, do shopping, go to the beach, having breakfast on the beachside on saturday (= sunday elsewhere ). I felt safe.

Here in Jerusalem it seems rather quiet for the moment, but i realize that it`s more political here. You see a lot more orange ribbons, the sign of the people who are against the disengagement. Young girls selling orange bracelets and T-shirts, little boys ask for donations in order to support Gush Katif, even at the Kotel a women wanted to give me leaflet in  hebrew about Gush Katif. I mean, she was doing this in the women`s section of the Kotel, not on the large place before it. I think there`s a limit. This is the most holy site, the site where you go to pray, and she bothers the women with political leaflets? Hmm.

I`ve been to the Yad VaShem yesterday, in the newly opened museum, which is fantastic talking of the architecture. I highly recommend it, but take your time, a lot of time. I spent three hours inside the museum, and haven`t watched all of the testimonies. The Hall of names is as touching as the Childrens Memorial, i had to leave after a few minutes because it made me cry.

I find in general ( or, let`s say it like this), the israeli people are very gifted when it comes to organize exhibitions. I`ve been to the Tel Aviv Art Museum, the Israel Museum, the Yad VaShem, and all these exhibits are made in a manner that they are easy to understand, easy to follow, and teach well history. I always enjoy my visits.

So, all for this time, i`ll add the links asap and hope that i didn`t mix up the letters ( the keybord is not the same as at home...)
