Shabat

posted Saturday, 10 March 2007

A week ago the french swiss television started to show the second season of Desperate Housewives on friday night, three episodes in a row ! I come home from work and groceries, prepare my dinner, and watch the series. To be sure that nobody disturbes me, i switch off my mobile and unplug my fix-phone. And not re-plug / switch on again until late saturday afternoon.

It feels so good, to stay quiet at home, not to be available for anyone, just to start quietly and without any hurry the morning, having breakfast with a big bowl of fresh strawberries ( i love strawberries !) and a big cup of Café au Lait.

Today i thought, it's a bit like Shabat to the observant jewish people, who do not use electricity on shabat. They don't work, they finish the week within their families, praying, eating, reading, relaxing.

I once read a book by Lea Fleischmann, called "Schabat" which is excellent. It explains the sense and need of Shabat, and how to see the benefits of it not only from a religious point of view. Observing Shabat is benefic to everybody, especially in our days, where we are being stressed throughout the whole ( working ) week, and need to relax at least one day a week, to recover, to regain strength, spending time with our family and friends, and finally, also ourselves.

And i think, i'll keep going like this, and will be switching off the phones every friday evening, to be able to relax, recover, be with myself ( i have no family around here ).

So, Shabat Shalom.
