Depeche Mode *Geneva 31 january 2006

posted Wednesday, 1 February 2006

About seven months ago i bought my tickets. The concert was sold out within a short time.

Yesterday Depeche Mode was in concert in Geneva. And it was great, giant.

The first concert i ever went to, was a concert of Depeche Mode, back in Hamburg, back in 1983, i was 13 years old. I've seen them another time in Hamburg, maybe it was in 1985 or 1986, don't remember exactly.

Yesterday, after ( gulp!! ) 23 years i saw them again, together with thousands other people in the audience, average of age i'd say between 30 and 40. My generation, the generation of the Eighties.

They played some songs of their last album, but also a lot of their eighties and nineties hits. The audience was "boiling", we turned to teenagers again, singing the songs, no word has been forgotten. We enjoyed ourselves, the band enjoyed themselves and the fact that the fans are still there, the same people as twenty years before.

The singer, Dave Gahan, was sexier than ever. Martin Gore doesn't seem to get older, still the same.

It was great, and i was wondering why: well, first of all, it's still my kind of music, second, there are a lot of memories connected to their music, and , i guess the most important thing, the music took me back to a period of my life where there were no worries, no problems.

Sometimes i think that the time between 1983 and 1989 was the best period of my life. Maybe the happiest.

Thanks guys, for taking me ( and others ) back to this period of being a teenager, for two hours of time.
